Pau Pele, Pau Manō [ʻŌlelo Noʻeau #2617]

The literal translation of this ʻōlelo noʻeau is "Devoured by Pele (lava), Devoured by a shark." This phrase is an oath ma ka ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi. Much like the modern day "cross my heart, hope to die" oath, it was believed that the one who utters this oath and did not keep their vow would indeed meet an end by Pele or by manō.
